More detail about the role

Consultant in Palliative Medicine

Welcome to North Devon. World Class by Nature.’ If you are looking for your next career move in Palliative Medicine, please read on…

Following retirement of a long-serving post-holder, we are seeking a new Consultant in Palliative Medicine, to work 8 PAs (negotiable) alongside the Trust’s existing Consultant in Palliative Medicine. We are happy to receive enquiries from doctors who may wish to work fewer than 8 PAs.

You will be based at North Devon Hospice. In addition to responsibilities in its 7-bedded inpatient unit, you will also have sessions supporting the hospital and community palliative care teams.

Uniquely, you will enjoy the benefits of being a team member of both organisations, North Devon Hospice and the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. As a stakeholder of the Hospice’s senior management team, you will also have key influence over end of life care across the Northern Devon locality healthcare system.

In addition, the role is supported by the regional network of Palliative Medicine Consultants, such as those serving the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and Eastern Services of the Trust.

Our county is frequently rated as one of the best places to live in the UK, with world class beaches, Exmoor National Park, first class schools and many attractions all on your doorstep.

Furthermore the Hospice will provide relocation support as outlined in the recruitment pack.

If you would enjoy working in a truly integrated care model across hospice, hospital and community settings, as well as delivering education to our healthcare colleagues, then please get in touch.

For an informal discussion, please contact Dr Hasib Choudhury, Consultant in Palliative Medicine, on 01271 311 642 (hospital team’s direct line), or email h.choudhury@nhs.net ; or contact Mr Stephen Roberts, Chief Executive, North Devon Hospice on 01271 347 239, email stephenroberts@northdevonhospice.org.uk

Working Pattern: 8 PAs

Interview Date: TBC

Preference will be given to staff with ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon.

The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust reserves the right to close vacancy when sufficient applications have been received.

The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust was established in April 2022, bringing together the expertise of both the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust.
