Role Summary
This is a fixed term/secondment role for 12months. The ward is called Capener-ACE based on RDUH.
The Acute Frailty Ward (Previously Known as ACE) is looking for a Ward Sister/Charge Nurse to lead and manage the caring nursing staffs of the ward. The applicant must have good leadership skills, passion and compassion for healthcare for older people, has knowledge about Frailty and has understanding of the process and aim of the service which is to promote/encourage older patients to be independent as much as possible.
The applicant may need to adapt to working in different clinical environments such as Frailty SDEC and other front door areas as well as being involved in teaching and developing staffs, the ward itself and the service.

The Acute Frailty Ward is a service that aims to treat older patients within a MDT to enable patients to return home as soon as possible. The Unit is a MDT lead with strong involvement with the Geriatricians, Ward Doctors, Frailty Nurses, Admission Avoidance and other Community Teams. The applicant is also expected to be experienced in working with older patients within an Acute setting. The applicant must have good leadership skills, passion and compassion for healthcare for older people, has knowledge about Frailty and has understanding of the process and aim of the service, which is to promote/encourage older patients to be independent as much as possible. The applicant may need to adapt to working in different clinical environments such as Frailty SDEC and other front door areas as well as being involved in teaching and developing staffs, the ward itself and the service. The role requires for applicant to have knowledge about managing sickness, understands the Sickness Policy, has knowledge about Datix, handling complaints and PDRs. The role also requires applicant to be able to ensure good patient flow on the ward liaising well with the Frailty Nurses and Site Management.
Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week. Includes Weekends and Bank Holidays.

Pay: The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2025/6 rates, inclusive of a 3.6% pay award which will be implemented later this year. If you join before the implementation date, the pay award will be backdated to your start date. Until then, remuneration will be based on the 2024/5 pay bandings (Pay scales for 2024/25 | NHS Employers).
