Role Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a registered pharmacy technician to join our friendly and supportive Medicines Management team at the Barnstaple site of Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring the optimal performance of the pharmacy service, working both at ward level and in the dispensary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality care to patients at ward level as part of an efficient medicines management system.
  • Undertake medicines reconciliation, ensuring patients' own medicines are suitable for use in hospital.
  • Support one-stop dispensing to facilitate safe and efficient patient discharge.
  • Order non-stock medicines for individual patients as required.
  • Counsel patients about their medicines, improving understanding and adherence.
  • Co-ordinate the supply of discharge medication to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Rotate through all acute site wards and attend community hospital wards when required.

In addition to ward-based responsibilities, this role includes dispensary-based duties, such as dispensing and final accuracy checking of prescriptions.

Our Medicines Management Service at the Barnstaple site of Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic registered pharmacy technician to join our forward-thinking team.


We are looking to recruit a Band 5 pharmacy technician who already holds an accredited checking qualification and a medicines management qualification. However, if you’re a newly qualified or registered pharmacy technician eager to develop your skills, this role offers a fantastic opportunity to work towards a Band 5 post and gain these qualifications within 6-12 months of appointment, with full support from our experienced team.


As a key member of our multidisciplinary and clinical teams, you’ll play a vital role in delivering high-quality pharmacy and medicines management services, ensuring the best possible care for our patients. Your work will include providing a ward-based service to medical and surgical wards, as well as supporting the dispensary team to enhance patient safety and experience.
